Statement of faith

What we believe

These are the convictions the whole of our life together rests on — written plainly, with the passages they come from.

  1. 01

    God

There is only one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Matthew 28:19; 1 John 4:13–15

  2. 02

    The Scriptures

The Holy Bible is God's written revelation of Himself and His plan, written by men divinely inspired of God, inerrant and authoritative.

    2 Timothy 3:16–17; Psalm 119:9–24

  3. 03

    Man and sin

Man was created in a state of holiness and union with God, but created enmity between himself and God by sin — originally through Adam, our faithful representative, and continuing through our own rebellion.

    Genesis 3:1–13; Romans 5:12

  4. 04

    Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son, incarnate. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and clearly demonstrated His deity through the miracles He performed and by the perfect sacrifice He made for the atonement of man's sins. Jesus was resurrected from the grave in body and spirit, ascended to the right hand of God in heaven, and will visibly and physically return to earth in power and glory.

    Matthew 28:5–7; Acts 1:9–11

  5. 05

    Salvation

Man is restored to right relationship with God only by grace, through faith in the deity and substitutionary atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a gift of God, so no man should boast of his own righteousness.

    Hebrews 4:14–16; Matthew 1:18

  6. 06

    The priesthood of the believer

Every believer in Jesus Christ has direct access to the Father with no need of a human mediator. The believer is privileged to read and interpret the Scriptures as guided by God the Holy Spirit.

    1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4:16; John 14:13–14; 1 John 1:9; Hebrews 9:12–24; 2 Corinthians 5:17–20

  7. 07

    The local church

Every believer is called to be part of a local congregation of believers. This congregation provides theological protection, moral guidance, and practical support. The church is also the institution authorised to perform the ordinances of baptism and communion.

  8. 08

    Eternity

All humans are spiritual beings and have free will to choose eternal life with God through repentance of sins and faith in Jesus Christ, or, by rejecting Christ, eternal suffering in hell.

    1 John 5:11–13

  9. 09

    Marriage

Marriage is defined as a holy covenant relationship between one man and one woman. A person may be legally married to only one person at any one point in time. Marriages outside these parameters will not be performed by church ministers, nor performed on church property.

    Genesis 2:22–24; Romans 7:2–3; Hebrews 13:4

These are the core beliefs one must agree with to be joined with our fellowship. In addition to these, we are in broad agreement with the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
