A gospel community
that shares hope,
shapes believers,
and serves Christ
together.

We’re an ordinary church on Saunders Road with the doors open and the coffee on. If you’re new to the Peninsula, new to church, or just looking for somewhere to belong — you already have a seat here.

Planning to visit?

Here’s exactly what Sunday looks like.

Come as you are — some people wear a tie, most don’t. Park anywhere in the lot off Saunders Road and come in the front doors under the cross. Somebody will say hello, and there’s breakfast and coffee in the Coffee Corner before the service. We sing, we read the Bible, and the pastor preaches from it. You will not be singled out, asked to stand up, or put on a list. We’re usually done a little after noon.

Breakfast and coffee in the Coffee Corner beforehand. Children are welcome in the service, and Kids on the Way classes run at the same time.

Our mission, in practice

Three verbs, painted on our own wall.

01
Share hope
With the neighbourhoods around Saunders Road, with Bethel Manor families, and through partners doing the work up close — Thrive Peninsula, Care Net, and our mission partners in Nicaragua.
02
Shape believers
Preaching that takes the text seriously, classes for adults and children, and older believers who are still teaching after fifty years of it.
03
Serve Christ together
Deacons on the sound board and at the coffee bar, teenagers on the worship team, retirees running the food pantry. Nobody serves alone here.

Our story

Planted in 1964 to reach the neighbours next door.

Immanuel Baptist Church was planted to reach Swansee Manor and the Lakes subdivisions that were being built around it. The work and sacrifice of generations of believers have put us in a great position to keep reaching those neighbourhoods — and the communities that have grown up around us in the sixty years since.

A word from our pastor

“A relationship with Christ is the only hope we have for a meaningful life. That’s why I do this.”

David Teem has pastored Immanuel since 2019. Before Virginia he spent ten years as a youth pastor and pastored a small church in Oden, Arkansas. He and Amy have been married more than twenty years and have five children — so if your kids are noisy in the service, he genuinely won’t notice.
